About this trail

The Ida Way traces the storied forested flanks of Mount Ida (Kazdağları) in Çanakkale province, a landscape bound to Greek mythology and home to some of the richest biodiversity in northwestern Turkey. The trail moves between dense beech and oak canopy, clear springs, and open ridges, offering sweeping views that extend toward both the Aegean and the Sea of Marmara — its mixed character means no two stretches feel the same. Footing is generally solid but can turn muddy in forested sections after rain. Water sources and streams are most reliable in the lower stretches; carry your own supply for the drier upper ridges. Late spring and early autumn are the most comfortable windows — summer heat builds quickly in exposed sections, and snow can linger at elevation well into spring. Trail marking is adequate but demands attention under dense canopy, so keeping a GPS track as a backup is a sensible precaution. Basic resupply is possible in nearby villages; on warm, rocky sections watch for snakes that gather on sun-exposed stones.
