About this trail

The Langtang Valley Trek winds through one of Nepal's most accessible yet genuinely wild national parks, threading past Tamang villages, dense rhododendron and bamboo forests, and expansive alpine meadows before opening into a high valley ringed by Himalayan giants, with Langtang Lirung dominating the skyline. Compared to the country's more crowded circuits, this route rewards trekkers with a quieter, more intimate encounter with traditional mountain culture and raw Himalayan landscape within striking distance of Kathmandu. The trail follows the Langtang Khola from Syabrubesi, with terrain shifting from rooted forest paths and stream crossings to rocky moraine and open meadow as elevation rises — note that the 2015 earthquake reshaped several sections and created new landslide zones that require careful navigation. Altitude sickness becomes a genuine concern as you approach Kyanjin Gompa; acclimatize deliberately and do not push through symptoms. The best windows are spring (March to May) and autumn (October to November); monsoon brings slippery paths, aggressive leeches, and serious landslide hazard, while deep winter snow can block the higher sections. Tea house accommodation and meals are available along the main trail, though services thin out noticeably beyond Langtang village — water can be sourced from streams and villages but must be treated. Obtain your Langtang National Park entry permit and TIMS card before or at the entry checkpoint, as both are checked on the trail.
