About this trail
This linear section of the Sentiero Italia cuts through the rugged interior of Sicily, crossing a landscape of limestone outcrops, maquis scrub, and open hillsides shaped by centuries of pastoral life. As part of Italy's long-distance national trail, it distills the character of the Sicilian backcountry into a short but revealing stretch. Because the route runs one way, start and end points differ — arrange return transport before setting out. The path surface is mostly compacted earth and loose limestone, so sturdy footwear with solid ankle support is essential. Water sources along the way are scarce; carry everything you need, particularly since Sicilian summers bring intense heat and exposed ridges offer little shade. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons for this stretch; summer hiking is best avoided or tackled only with a very early start. CAI red-and-white waymarks guide the route, but even on a short mountain path a downloaded offline map makes a worthwhile backup.
Distances, elevation and times are approximate; follow waymarks and local conditions on the trail.
